Study 01 · Ceiling, twice

Grid, then vault.

The ceiling is not one surface but two. A planar grid sets the rhythm of the room; a curved vault flows across the grid, lifting toward one end. The oculus is carved where the two systems meet — a structural void rather than a decorative hole. From below, what looks like a single ceiling is in fact a layered structural conversation.

What this study reveals
  • 01The grid as the structural rhythm of the room — every column, every panel, sized to its module.
  • 02The vault as a directional gesture — flowing toward the speaker, declaring the axis of the ritual.
  • 03The oculus as the moment where the two systems concede to each other, opening a vertical channel for light.
  • 04How the ceiling reads from inside: planar at the front, deepening into curve toward the back.
